I had the pleasure of meeting Catherine way back in June when she first started coming along to my weekly pregnancy relaxation classes. It seems like such a long time ago! It was a complete pleasure to get to know Catherine and see her bump grow as the weeks passed by. I feel so honoured to be able to share her birth story with you. This was Catherine’s first baby and in the last session before her baby was due Catherine shared with the group how calm and excited she was to meet her baby! This was wonderful to hear, especially as she had been told at her appointment that her baby was going to be a big one (!!) which can often cause mums to worry. Thanks for sharing Catherine……
I just wanted to let you know that Adeline Ivy Grace Bull arrived at 1.25am on Saturday 1st October weighing 8lb 2oz. Perfect weight (especially after all that worry about her being a big baby!)
My waters went on Friday morning at 5.45am. Got checked out around 1pm at the Aveta Birth Centre in Cheltenham and was given some aromatherapy oils and advised to have a nice bath and nap to see if that would get contractions going. Sure enough it worked and by 4/5pm contractions had started up regularly. Managed the pain at home with breathing techniques, relaxing music and a tens machine. Went into the birth centre around 8.30pm when the contractions were around every 3/4 minutes and lasting a solid 45-60 seconds. Everything then ramped up and happened quite quickly so started on the gas and air. I then got in the pool around 10pm which was lovely (although obviously still painful!). After some time struggling to push, I got out the pool to make it easier and allow the midwife to better assist, and delivered baby Adeline at 1.25am. I am so happy I was able to deliver at the birth centre and feel as though I was able to have the birth I really wanted, and using just the pain relief that I wanted. Adeline is a dream; I can’t believe how amazing it is to be a mum and to have brought her safely into the world.
Thank you so much for the relaxation classes and techniques. I can remember repeating the birth affirmations to myself at certain points and, although parts of the birth are a blur, I know your classes helped me get through the birth. They were also extremely beneficial in the lead up to the birth in keeping me calm and relaxed about the whole upcoming experience, and ultimately about feeling confident with my decision to give birth in Cheltenham.
Please feel free to pass the news onto the other mothers at the next class, and wish them all the best in their births and journey into motherhood.
Thank you again for everything – I will recommend you to anyone I know that is expecting and be sure to use your services again should a second baby ever be on the cards!
