You never signed up to birth during a pandemic did you? I know things are uncertain. I know it is scary. I don’t think anyone could ever have imagined having a pregnancy so full of such uncertainty, pressure, restrictions and fear.
I know your maternity leave dreams of coffee dates with friends and new antenatal group bump buddies have been destroyed. I know that dreams of Saturday afternoons perusing the stores choosing babies first outfit, looking at and feeling the soft clothes that your baby will soon be snuggled in can’t happen.
I know that you might be feeling alone, afraid and unsure what will be happening when you go in to labour and what the situation in hospitals might be like. But you are not alone. Know that in houses all around the country and the world that other pregnant women are feeling just like you and use that knowledge to give you strength. You are not on your own.
Please know that despite how you might be feeling now that you are strong. Please know that you have an incredible inner resource that you can access that will help you through these times and will be there for you through your labour. You will come through the other side and look back proud of how strong you are and how you came through whatever was thrown at you.
If things feel hard pause, breathe and allow yourself to feel what you need to. It is hard. Things are uncertain. It isn’t fair. Then take a deep breath and search for a positive. There will be one there hiding – I promise you. Maybe it is having more time at home with your partner before your new baby joins your family. Or perhaps it is having early days with your baby without the pressure to be out and about and visiting people. I know this isn’t what you wanted or expected but if you look hard enough there will be some light.
Just remember – you are awesome mama – and you’ve got this xx
