The Christmas Eve birth story of Blake…
I had the pleasure of meeting Carrie and Adam at one of my free taster sessions before Christmas. Straight after the session they said they wanted to book a private course with me and a month later we started the sessions. Carrie and Adam read the book, practiced the techniques and listened to the tracks in the lead up to birth. They were also a completely wonderful to work with! I was so excited to hear the news of their baby’s arrival on Christmas Eve. Here is their story…
Firstly I wanted to say a massive thank you to you for the hypnobirthing course you provided Adam and I with- it was absolutely amazing, I cannot speak highly enough of you or the concept of hypnobirthing- I shall be recommending it to everyone I know!!
On to the exciting bit…. on Christmas Eve at 10.52am I gave birth to a beautiful baby boy, he weighed 8lbs and 3oz and we called him Blake Liam (Smith).
My labour / delivery was absolutely amazing and I only have you / the techniques you taught us (plus Adams support) to thank for that.
We were holding off on making any Christmas plans the week leading up to my due date as we weren’t sure when baby would arrive but as Christmas drew closer we thought we should go ahead and make plans with family (I knew as soon as we did this baby would decide to make an appearance)….. So on the Friday night we were going to my mums house for a big pre-Christmas family dinner. As soon as we got there I started having stomach pains. They grew more and more intense but wasn’t sure if I was in labour.
We came home at around 9pm and I started to listen to the “birth preparation” track (still not convinced this was the real thing!). I had a bath and breathed through the pain. Once out of the bath I started listening to the excitement phase. I continued this until around 6.30am when suddenly my bottom started to feel very heavy. Adam had suggested calling the hospital a couple of times but I was adamant I was staying at home as long as possible so I tried to delay him….I think he got slightly worried I may have the baby on the bathroom floor and therefore he called the hospital.
We arrived at the hospital at 7.45am and baby Blake was here at 10.52am. As soon as I arrived I felt the need to start pushing. I just kept listening to the serious phase on loop throughout this time. It was really nice as the midwife could also hear it and she was responding to it too (checking baby’s heart rate when the track said “the midwife may need to check the baby’s heart rate”).
All in all the most wonderful of experiences with it all happening how we’d wished- I stayed at home as long as possible, we got to go to the birth unit, had a natural delivery with no examinations and I didn’t have any pain killers (not even gas and air!).
All in all such a wonderful experience and baby Blake coped tremendously throughout.
Love and best wishes
Carrie and Adam
